My Shooting and Reloading Page

Long before I got into Blacksmithing my hobby was shooting. Back in the late 80's and early 90's I frequently shot 4 to 6 matches a month as well as practice sessions at the indoor range during the week. Circumstances dictated that I stop shooting for a few years in order to raise my daughter and attend college. Now, I have started shooting again. Unfortunately, over the years I have let myself go physically, so I am in no real shape to compete. I can still shoot pretty quick, but I can't move nearly fast enough to actually be competitive. However, I do have a lot of fun.

I will be chronicling some of my shooting and talking about some of my recent gun purchases as well as what I like or dislike about them. I will also post up some pictures and videos of some local matches I am shooting in. I hope you enjoy it.

SigSauer 1911

Here is a link to the model I bought.

From the left looking at the safety and mag realease. The safety has a solid click to it which I like.

Here is a shot from the rear showing the 3 dot night sights. I really like these sights.

The right side looking at the ejection port. You can see that it has an external extrator, which some don't like, but it doesn't matter to me.

Here is some video of me shooting the Sig in a couple local matches.

Corona Sportsman club monthly tactical match. This is the first time I had shot the gun in a match. At this point I had about 200 rounds through it at the indoor range the day I picked it up just to know where it hit. It performed flawlessly.

Same match different stage. I had forgotten how to do a simple Mozambique drill. It's kind of funny the order I shot the last 4 targets in. I have no idea what I was thinking at the time.

Rockpile Steel Match. I am dressed in cowboy garb because I had just come from the Corona Sportman club monthly cowboy match. We only got to shoot the first stage before some idiot on a neawrby rifle range started a fire. Ruined a good day of shooting, but I did get to see some cool close up tanker drops. Gained a newfound respect for what firefighterts do. We tried to put it out but we were more like keystone cops than any kind of firefighters.

So far I am very happy with this pistol. I have had a little trouble with it feeding some of my crappy reloads, but it feeds any kind of factory ammo just fine. I am sure that once I am better at reloading for the .45 ACP it will do better as well. THe only other issue I have had is that it shoots about 2" lower than point of aim at 50 ft. I am going to put more rounds through it before I send it back to get adjusted. I want to make sure it is the gun and not me.
