Art Projects

I've been doing a lot of work lately with Rich Lopez of Pop's Pottery who does beautiful ceramic work. I have been building wall and table stands for him to display his ceramic platters and baskets. Here are a few recent creations.

Here is a large bowl hanging on the wall.
Here is that same bowl & stand sitting on a table.
Here is a shot from the side. The bowl is 22" across, and almost 8" deep.
Here it is on diplay, along with a couple other pieces, at an art gallery in Taos NM.
Here is another of his platters. This one is about 22" across and about 4" deep.
Here a shot of the platter holder alone. I make these in 3 sizes.
Here are a couple of the table top stands. I make these in 3 sizes that will hold from a 10" up to a 24" platter.
Here is a wide shot of the gallery. I made all the stands shown here.
Here is a ceramic basket Rich made.
We may add something to this before he takes it to sell.
Here is the custom wall hanger I made for it.

New creations.

This is a new design that holds the platter flat against the wall.
I put a hook at the top that will keep the platter from falling out.
Here is a shot of it hanging in the gallery in Taos. It is the center one.
You can see here how it holds it flush to the wall. The platter foot touches the wall at the bottom, and is about a 1/2" away at the top.
Here is a straight on shot. I am going to add some stuff that will hang off the sides I think. I'll post pictures when it's done.
Here is a wide shot of the gallery. I made all the stands shown here.

Here is an eagle feather I did that will end up hanging on each side of the platter above. It's the first one I have done, and I am pretty proud of it.

It turned out pretty nice. I havn't put a finish on it yet. I brushed it with a brass brush to give it a slighly gold tint. I plan to spray it with a clear coat once the stem is done and ready for mounting.

Here is another ceramic stand we are calling the hangman. The platter hangs from the rim and there is not much visable except the base. Here are a few shots of this stand finished.

Here is the finished stand. It turned out very nicely. It will look great in a corner.
To give you an idea of the size of that platter, each side of the triangle base is 15" long.
I had to change the angle of the back to get it to hang properly, but it still looks amazing just floating like that.
Here are a couple shots of it in the gallery in Taos. It looks really great sitting on the mirror.

I also did a stand recently for Gary Comminoto, who teaches ceramics at the college where I work. He did a very large platter that was 27" accross. It was pretty interesting working with one that large. I hope to do more in the future for him.

This is only at the bisk stage. It will look very nice once he paints it and glazes it. Gary does mostly Raku, which is a very interesting style that give a very unique look to each piece.

Candle Chandelier
Here is a candle chandelier I made that holds 24 candles. In these pics it's mounted on a pole in my back yard. I also made a hook so it could be hung on a chain.

Thursday, June 3rd, 2005 Update.

I sold the chandelier to another re-enactment group called The Archers Of Ravenwood. They built a huge pavilion out at the Karonaburg Faire and were able to hang it there. It looks really great.

This faire doesn't allow open flames so they ground off the nails to set the candles in and used clear glasses from Big Lots.
It's hard to see at night because I'm below it, but it really looks great lit up.
Here is another shot of it lit at night. I'm glad it turned out being of good use to someone after sitting around for a couple of years.
