Other Guys Forges
Updated 12-12-06
I've been planning this page for quite some time. I have a few pictures of forges that other guys have made based partly off the information they found here. As you can see, none of them look exactly like mine. This really shows the creativity and ingenuity of blacksmiths. Enjoy.
If you have built a forge using any of the ideas from this site I would love to see them. Please send me some pictures and I will post them up here. Thanks.
This first one was built by David Gifford. He did a real nice job on it. I like the flip up door in back. I'll try to get an update and post that up as well.

Looks like it has just been lit here. |

Dave sent me a couple more pictures after he finished it up. He has built a very nice cart for it, and painted it as well. This is a very clean and functional design. Good work Dave. |

This next forge was built by Steed Cutcher. As you can see, he went with a rectangle instead of the round. The key to these forges is to use what you have. All you are trying to do is contain your flames within a container that can take the heat. There really is no set rules on what shape it has to be. Good work Steed.
Here is the basic forge setup. For those of you wondering what to do with your old coal forge, here is a great idea. Use it to hold your new propane forge like Steed did. |
I love the way he ran the plumbing on this forge. What a great clean job. I am way too impatient to do mine like this. Kudos Steed. |
Here is an overhead shot of the forge that shows his shop some as well. What a nice setup. I wish I could get my shop looking like that, but I am way too much of a slob to organize that well. |
